I said to the surgeon in the last meeting before being wheeled in and anaesthitised, "Hope you have lots of my blood type on hand - I have a fairly rare bloodtype" He responded, "Oh it's an almost bloodless op." Well it was until they managed to nick my carotid artery during the procedure. I thought it was a good sign that the surgeon pioneered the technique... but that was decades ago and now he had old hands. They were big time worried when I woke up. That was in 1995.
