LAR Injections & Scar Tissue

I'm wondering if anyone has a problem with scar tissue inhibiting injection of Sandostatin LAR? I'm on 40mg every 3 weeks. I've been getting LAR injections for almost 7 years. In about the last year my doctor has been having problems injecting, and a significant amount of medication is spilled. At first I thought he wasn't thawing medication properly. But it's happening almost every month now. I also have hard lumps as though medication collects in one spot and doesn't distribute. I haven't tried massage extensively, but its very painful and doesn't seem to reduce lumps. My symptoms are trying to return and my IGF-1 is slowly increasing as I'm not receiving the optimal dose. Anyone with experience or suggestions?? I'm hoping I don't have to go the daily injection route. I imagine I'd eventually build scar tissue that way too. Thanks!

40 mg every 3 weeks is a lot of injections!

Have you tried going in a hot tub? I like to think that it "melts" the lumps, but also it's nice and relaxing anyway. I only do hot tub towards the end of my medication cycle (like week 3), when I feel like the delivery of medication is trailing off.

FYI I have done the daily injection in addition to the Sando (30mg/3weeks), and the daily injection is really not that bad. I don't know about doing it as an alternative to Sando (I think that would be a lot of shots every day) but the needle is tiny and I can do it myself at home. The one inconvenience

Try to get on a clinical trial for oral Sando/octreotide (octreolin).

Search google for it.

With the 40mg it's only 2 shots every 3 weeks. Mostly I'm happy not to have to refrigerate/dispense the med myself. I do love hot tubs but we don't have access to one. What ended up helping so far (it's only been two injections since the change) is making sure the injections are done in the proper location and rotated. I didn't realize my doctor was giving my injections too high on the buttocks, and I don't believe he remembered to rotate the injections. I had to refer back to my Sando literature and bring to him.
